How this site is built
We believe you should know what's behind a website, so here's ours. It's the same simple, fast, low-cost approach we use for churches.
The pages
- Hand-written HTML and CSS, with no website builder or framework.
- Two small scripts: one makes the website field required when you ask for a free accessibility check, and one shows our email address in a way that spam robots can't easily collect. The site still works without them.
- No analytics, no ads, no tracking cookies, and nothing loaded from other companies while you browse.
Hosting and delivery
- Netlify hosts the site and publishes it automatically when we update it.
- GitHub stores the site's code and its full change history.
- Cloudflare manages the domain's settings (DNS). The domain is registered with Squarespace.
- Every page is served over HTTPS, with a strict security policy that blocks scripts and content from other sites.
The contact forms
- Netlify Forms receives messages from our contact and "I'm interested" forms and filters spam with Akismet.
- A small Netlify Function copies each one to Smartsheet, our inquiry lists.
- An email notification goes to Cary's Gmail inbox.
Our privacy page explains what each one keeps and for how long.
Typefaces
Headings use Young Serif. Body text uses Atkinson Hyperlegible, designed by the Braille Institute for readers with low vision. Labels use IBM Plex Mono. All three are free under the SIL Open Font License and served from this site.
Accessibility
We build to the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1, Level AA, and test every page with industry-standard automated tools (like axe-core) and by hand, in light and dark mode and on small screens. See our accessibility statement.
Free accessibility checks
Checks are run with our own tool, PewToYou Checks, on Cary's computer. It loads your public pages in a browser, tests them with the same industry-standard tools (like axe-core) plus a small-screen check, and drafts a plain-language report. Cary reviews every report by hand before it's sent.
Who built it
Built by Cary Stolarczyk with help from AI coding and writing tools (Claude by Anthropic and Gemini by Google). Cary reviews and approves every change before it goes live.
